Good Friends, Good Times, Good Memories
A highlight of our November General Meeting was the presentation by Dennis Wayper on General Sir John Monash – the Warrior and Man. Dennis never ceases to inform and entertain with his well researched presentations including those previously given to our Club on Dame Joan Sutherland and Doris Day. In November we welcomed Marea Reed and John Walsh to the membership and we look forward to getting to know them in the coming months.
The visit to the Summerland Camel Farm in Harrisville far exceeded expectations. The power point “Walk through Nundah” presentation by the Nundah Historical Society at their Nundah meeting rooms brought back many memories to our attending members followed by some lively discussion.
Spring has arrived with its beautiful days of sunshine. We were extremely blessed with our quest speaker, Brian Herd, who delivered his talk on Wills and Succession Planning in a most absorbing and entertaining manner. Members enjoyed the Bremer River Voyage and the Margaret Olley and Ben Quilty outing to the Art Galley was well praised by all attending members.
Welcome to our new members, Di Nielsen and Peter Llewellyn. Happy Father’s Day to all our fathers and grandfathers. Fun is an enjoyable distraction, “Friendship,” says Christopher Robin, ” is a very comforting thing to have” and Fellowship is a group of educated people who enjoy shared acquaintance.
Spring is in sight and all is well with Hamilton Probus. The Committee meetings are full of creative ideas. Fun – lunch on the Kookaburra Queen was a very pleasant way to pass a couple of hours with good company. Friendship – Love, peace, freedom and friendship are the greatest blessings in life. Fellowship – Fun and good fellowship is valued as the cement of the community. Woodrow Wilson.
Winter has arrived and we are celebrating with Christmas in July at Secrets on the Lake at Montville on the 24th July. Looking forward to August we have a cruise up the Brisbane River to the Bremer River Junction and a visit to GOMA to see the exhibition of works by Margaret Olley and Ben Quilty which will be guided by one of our own members.
With the enjoyable outing to see the Met Opera production of Carmen at the Dendy Theatre Portside and exceptional Lunch at Mt Coot-tha Summit Restaurant in May, the June activities follow with the annual Trivia Quiz Day, Kookaburra Queen Cruise and Pizza in Kalinga Park.
At the end of March we had a fun lunch at the Sofitel Hotel. April then commenced with a bus trip to Gympie including a train excursion on the Mary Valley Rattler which was enjoyed by all together with our friends from Chapel Hill. Our Annual Dinner was held at the Royal Hotel in Nundah, and as always was a good night with friends.
This month the Hamilton Probus Club’s Times Newsletter celebrates its Bi-Centenary Edition and to mark the occasion selected pages of the 100th Edition of The Times has been included in this publication.
We farewell three of our outstanding members, thank our outgoing 2018 Committee and welcome in our 2019 Committee. We thank those who have taken on important non-committee roles which are very important to the enjoyment of our meetings. My emphasis during my 2019 Presidency is for Fun Friendship and Fellowship. (Margot Kirby – incoming 2019 President)
Looking back over the past year of my Presidency there is a deal of satisfaction in seeing the degree of enjoyment members have from our Monthly Meetings, the launching of the Club’s Website and completion of the Archiving of the Clubs’ Records. The Outings and Activities have expanded, our Guest Speaker Programme has been exceptional and the Coffee Groups remain active and vibrant. (David McEvoy – outgoing 2018 President)
We celebrated the end of our Probus year 2018 with an excellent Christmas lunch at the Royal Queensland Golf Club and our thanks to all those involved in making the event such a success.
