Can we do better in 2025……The answer is yes, and the Activities Committee is hard at work to ensure just that…..
A happy new year to you all and may 2025 be a year of good health, fun and happiness.
The activities committee has already organised a few occasions for some get togethers…….
I hope all members survived the deluge of Cyclone Alfred and are safe and dry now that it has passed…
I look forward to working with the new committee to make the next 12 months most enjoyable for members and guests of Hamilton Probus Club.
It was lovely to see so many members on April Fool’s Day, but dear folks we need more members. Please ask friends and neighbours to join us…..
Members and guests who attended the May meeting enjoyed a very interesting talk on Eucalyptus and its migration from Australia to countries all over the world. This was presented by Dr John Earwaker…..
Most of our guest speakers leave us with something to think about and June’s speaker was no exception. Bridget Noble showed resilience, love and a desire to learn when her husband, John, suffered a stroke which left him with Aphasia, an inability to communicate. An educational, inspiring and moving talk…….
To hear our guest speaker, Gary Clarke, talk about his passion for drawing cartoons, made me feel it was an easy thing to do…….IF YOU HAD TALENT!

Brisbane prepares for the 2032 Olympics as our guest speaker Dr Ian Jobling provided a talk on early Olympic history. He mostly focussed on the years 1894 to 1908. It was a most interesting session.
Julie Peake, in her talk “Do you remember” , gave us some memories on which to ponder…some happy, some not so happy.
Not satisfied with a great physiotherapy practice, our guest speaker Peter Dornan, wrote books, climbed mountains, painted and sculpted many items exhibited in places around the world. A marvellous talk by a busy, gifted and determined man.
Thanks also to Greg McGilvery, our ten minute speaker for giving us an insight into travel in Pakistan in the 1970s.
As October was Probus Month throughout Australia the meeting was brief to enable celebrations of the occasion with members and guests.
We were entertained by ‘Mates Rates’ who sang, Bruce Collins had us exercising, and Dr Patrick Mahoney recited Banjo Patterson………..
For our November meeting held on Remembrance Day, we were extremely fortunate to have as our Guest Speaker, Peter Dunn OAM, a Military Historian, to speak about the camps in North Brisbane set up by the American Military during WWII. Read the attached ‘The Times’ for more details….
