2021 NEWSLETTERS
Good Friends, Good Times, Good Memories
Good Friends, Good Times, Good Memories
How quickly the year has passed. As many of us do at this time, I look back and reflect on our club year. I started with hope and optimism that COVID would not interrupt our lives too much and we certainly have been very fortunate as we have only had to cancel one meeting.
It was wonderful to welcome 72 Members and Guests to our General Meeting on 7th October, the biggest number we have had in the hall since COVID-19 interrupted our lives. I believe it highlights that we are ready to enjoy our Probus Meetings and Activities again with a little more freedom.
After the restrictions preventing our club having a meeting in August, it was wonderful to see so many members attend our General Meeting on 7th September. It was evident that all were happy to be together again and highlighted just how much we all care for one another
Since our last Newsletter, we have celebrated a “Christmas in July” lunch at Mr. and Mrs. Jones’ Restaurant at Portside. Thirty two members and guests enjoyed a very happy outing. I note that dining together and enjoying good conversation is always a favourite activity in our club.
On the 8th of June, approximately 30 members braved the cold, windy weather to enjoy Pizza in the Park. This is always a very popular event and once again, great company in a beautiful park and the enjoyment of excellent pizzas, ice cream and chocolates.
Thank you to our Meet and Greet team. At our last committee meeting, we agreed that the first time a visitor comes to our General Meeting, we will not charge them the entry fee as we want to make them feel very welcome.
I will be attending the President and Vice Presidents’ lunch and sharing ofinformation day on May 31st organized by PAQ. There has been concern about some Probus Clubs losing numbers and closing, however I am happy to report that our Club is doing well despite the COVID-19 restrictions. I am able to report that we have 76 active members, 7 waiting to be inducted and a healthy waiting list.
Autumn is in the air and it is wonderful to wake up to beautiful cool days. It is difficult to believe that we are nearly halfway through the year but exciting that we still have many months to enjoy our Probus Club meetings and activities.
It is a privilege to be your President for 2021 and I am very honoured and thank you for your good wishes and your faith in me. We are fortunate to have a dedicated committee who will work together to offer you a year of fellowship and friendship. I hope you will enjoy all we have planned for you. (Anne Gooley – incoming 2021 President)
I would like to thank all members for their support over the past year. The Club’s thirtieth year has been one to remember due to COVID -19 and the subsequent necessity to change our monthly meeting venue to St Colomb’s Anglican Church Hall in Clayfied. Thank you to all who contributed to the Hamilton Probus Bulletin, twenty-two weekly editions with stories, memories, humour and jokes contributed by club members. (Barry Henzell – outgoing 2020 President)
I was honoured to be installed as the 30th President of the Club in March 2020. Little did we expect the year to be a COVID year with all the trials and regulations. I was fortunate to have a great committee to work with. All the committee members undertook their roles without any need for prompting. Thank you all for your help and assistance.
